Prototype update! Addressing feedback from the previous version.
Hi all!
After some feedback from the initial version I posted weeks ago, I've uploaded a new version addressing some issues. Players said that the timer made the game stressful and did not leave much time go get used to game mechanics. That hard timer to reach a target score just added pressure on a very hard way.
To address that, I removed that timer, and now the difficulty scaling revolves around the earthquakes. The longer the player stays at a given depth, the the interval between earthquakes will decrease after each earthquake, and with each successive earthquake, more blocks will fall into the grid.
I think this has smoothed out the difficulty, while still pressuring the player to move fast to avoid more frequent earthquakes, as those will definitely make it more difficult to create a good combo. There's a minimum interval so that it doesn't make impossible to play.
On this update, there is also some new block and drills design, as the first part of the upcoming artwork production.
I hope you like the updates, and stay tuned because for the next update I will work on producing the graphics, art, sound and UI. It will be a major step towards the building of the demo. It will look gorgeous. On the gameplay side, I'm going to work on something that I've been thinking for a lot of time now: enemy blocks and a health system. The game will drop blocks on the player that will damage the mega drill from time to time.
There is no hard ETA here, but I think that I can make it between the end of the month and the second week of August.
Enjoy!
